A 27-year-old investment banker left a tough team at Deutsche Bank and now look at him
It's not necessarily easy to be a technology, media and telecoms (TMT) banker at Deutsche Bank. Last time we looked, juniors had been leaving the team run by Mathew Mathew and Martin Blanquart due to what some told us were heavy workloads. Times may have changed, but one ex-member of the team suggests there are fine opportunities on offer to those who walk away.

We have not spoken to William Hardy, who did not respond to a request to comment for this article, and nor have we confirmed his age, but by our reckoning he is aged either 27 or 28. Last December, he left Deutsche Bank's London office to become chief of staff at Omilia, a conversational intelligence company using AI. Now he is group CFO.
Hardy's ascent has not gone unnoticed among his former colleagues at DB. "He's probably one of the youngest CFOs in the UK," remarks one.
Being CFO at an AI company has the potential to be lucrative. In August, Omilia announced a $67 million Series B funding round led by transatlantic software & AI specialist, Expedition Growth Capital. It has annual recurring revenues of over $60m and Taco Bell among its clients.
Other Deutsche Bank TMT juniors may therefore want to be like Hardy. In April, there were suggestions that around 30 had left globally, including for private equity firms and rival banks. Deutsche declined to comment at the time.
