The hedge funds hiring graduates and interns
If you want to work in finance, it’s hard to beat working at a hedge fund.
From the high pay to the decent working hours, hedge funds are the promised land of financial services to many – especially in a climate where private equity firms are faltering, and investment banks are cutting wholesale.
And the best way to get in, as anywhere in finance, is with an internship. But hedge funds are tough to get into. They hire very few interns in general, for two reasons: firstly, because they mostly hire from bank sales & trading teams, and secondly because they’re generally very small. Even in combination, nine of the biggest hedge funds in the world have an employee count on par with a single investment bank. A small one. There are very few places to go around, and they’re very competitive to get into.
While top investment banks such as Goldman Sachs and top private equity firms such as Blackstone have acceptance rates of 0.7% and 0.25% respectively, hedge funds are in the same sort of ballpark - with hedge fund Point72’s academy accepting 0.6% of applicants to its summer internship, for example.
Here’s a list of the hedge funds that we know have open programs:
