What You'll Be Doing

As a Sr. QA Engineering Manager, you'll lead quality engineering strategy, test execution, and continuous improvement across applications, platforms, and key technology initiatives. You'll apply deep quality engineering expertise, strong business and technical understanding, and sound judgment to ensure testing approaches effectively address requirements, risks, dependencies, and operational impacts.

You'll define and oversee test strategy, quality standards, and testing practices across functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, web, API, and automation efforts, while ensuring effective defect management, test data planning, environment readiness, and release readiness. Working with a high degree of accountability, you'll partner closely with engineering teams, product owners, business stakeholders, compliance and audit partners, and external vendors where applicable to strengthen quality practices, resolve complex issues, and support reliable, scalable technology delivery.

You'll also lead, coach, and develop a team of QA professionals, setting clear expectations, supporting performance and career growth, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture aligned with CIBC's values.

At CIBC, we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. This role operates in a hybrid work arrangement, with a minimum of 2 days per week on-site at our Chicago location. Occasional travel may be required.

How You'll Succeed

  • People Leadership - Lead and develop a team of QA professionals by setting clear expectations, providing coaching and feedback, managing performance, supporting career growth, and building a high-performing, inclusive team culture aligned with CIBC's values.
  • Drive QA Strategy - Define and deliver quality engineering strategy aligned to business and technology priorities. Translate objectives into practical test approaches, resource plans, delivery milestones, and measurable quality outcomes.
  • Test Execution and Release Readiness - Oversee end-to-end testing and release readiness across functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, web, API, and automation efforts to ensure solutions are thoroughly validated and fit for deployment. Evaluate test coverage, pipeline quality gates, environment readiness, and release risk in agile, fast-paced delivery settings.
  • Continuous Improvement - Drive improvements in quality engineering practices through standardization, automation, tooling, CI/CD alignment, AI-enabled testing practices, and scalable processes that improve efficiency, coverage, reliability, and engineering outcomes.
  • Risk, Compliance, and Governance - Partner with business, product, and technology stakeholders to clarify requirements, manage defects and risks, resolve quality issues, and ensure adherence to security, risk, compliance, audit, and regulatory standards. Help foster a strong risk culture and align quality practices with departmental and enterprise goals.
  • Stakeholder Partnership - Work closely with technology management teams, enterprise technology partners, internal business partners, and external technology vendors to support strategic alignment, quality outcomes, and successful delivery across initiatives.

Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate experience in leading quality assurance and quality engineering strategies across complex enterprise environments, with extensive expertise in test strategy, test planning, defect management, and oversight of functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, web, and API testing. You have deep experience with test automation tools such as Selenium and Playwright, and a proven ability to build and scale enterprise-quality automation solutions. You also bring advanced knowledge of automation frameworks, object-oriented programming concepts, and modern quality engineering practices that support scale, stability, and efficiency.
  • You bring strong technical knowledge of tools and technologies such as JIRA, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Node.js, Python, Bruno, Postman, Scripting, and SQL, with the ability to support quality governance, CI/CD-enabled testing, version control, and risk-based decision-making.
  • You have hands-on experience with Robot Framework or similar Gherkin-based automation frameworks, with the ability to drive adoption of effective automation patterns across teams. You have 1-2 years of hands-on experience using AI tools to build test automation and improve testing efficiency, coverage, and engineering outcomes.
  • You are a people leader with proven success leading automation-first delivery, evaluating release risk and test coverage, and driving continuous improvement. You think strategically and solve complex problems, bringing new perspectives to improve the current state and align quality practices with broader organizational goals.
  • You are digitally savvy and innovative, with the ability to assess and adopt emerging tools, technologies, and quality engineering trends.
  • You have a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or a related field, or equivalent relevant certifications and/or completion of a relevant bootcamp. You bring 8-12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, ideally within financial services or technology environments.
  • It's an asset if you have familiarity with banking products, services, and industry regulations. Certifications in quality assurance, test automation, Agile, or project delivery would also be considered an asset.
