Digital Marketing Executive

Macfarlanes London, United Kingdom
Digital Marketing Executive

The Vacancy

We are recruiting a Digital Marketing Executive to join our Marketing and Business Development department on a permanent basis.

About Macfarlanes

Macfarlanes is a pre-eminent law firm that serves a global client base in Private Capital, Private Wealth, M&A and Disputes. Personal connection, an entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to excellence are at the heart of our firm. These values drive our ability to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

We are big enough to undertake the most complex and demanding mandates yet small enough to know each other well and to be agile, adapting to the needs of our clients. We seek to strengthen the firm by recruiting talented people from all backgrounds who want to build long-lasting and impactful careers with us. Our culture is challenging and supportive, creating an environment where individuals can thrive.

What this means for you

Joining Macfarlanes means being part of a collaborative, approachable team who want you to succeed. You'll be encouraged to get involved and recognised for your contribution.

We take your development seriously. Our learning and development programmes are second to none and are designed to help you strengthen your skills.

Above all, you'll be part of a firm where we all work together as part of a cohesive and supportive team, value your efforts and help you to thrive.

The team

You will be part of the Digital team within the wider marketing and business development department, working closely with the Digital Marketing Manager and the Senior Digital Marketing Executive. Day to day you will collaborate with colleagues across the firm - including fee-earners and business services teams - bringing the firm's campaigns and thought leadership to life across our digital channels.

The role

We're looking for a Digital Marketing Executive to run the day-to-day delivery of our digital marketing activity, with a particular focus on social media, email and website content. This role is the engine of the digital team - keeping the flow of content across our channels moving from draft to approval to publication, to a consistently high standard.

You'll be trusted to work with genuine autonomy: managing your own workload, catching issues before they become problems, and applying good judgement on messaging, accuracy and tone. You'll bring a methodical, well-organised approach and a sharp eye for detail across everything you deliver.

During the first six months of employment, you may be required to attend the office four days per week to support onboarding, training and collaboration. Your line manager may adjust this requirement based on your progress and business needs.

Core responsibilities

Social media publishing and channel management:

  • run the day-to-day publishing of the firm's social media channels, primarily LinkedIn, including scheduling and posting content;

  • guide social content from draft through approval to publication, coordinating input from stakeholders across the firm and keeping the process moving;

  • write, edit and proof social copy to a high standard, ensuring the messaging is clear, accurate and aligned to the firm's tone of voice;

  • create social cards and supporting visuals in Canva, working with the design team where elevated or more complex creative is required;

  • identify and proactively develop content opportunities across socials where appropriate (LinkedIn, LinkedIn Alumni, Instagram and the #LifeAtMacfarlanes employer brand);

  • maintain the social media editorial schedule, ensuring consistent and timely output;

  • monitor channels for mentions, comments, messages and enquiries, responding or escalating appropriately;

  • support paid LinkedIn activity, including boosting and promotion as required; and

  • support the promotion of firm events, webinars and campaigns across digital channels.

Email marketing (Vuture):

  • become a platform expert on Vuture, with training and support provided to build that expertise quickly;

  • support colleagues across Marketing and BD and wider business teams to build, QA and send their own campaigns and mailings - providing guidance, troubleshooting and quality assurance rather than doing every send yourself; and

  • help maintain consistent standards across templates, content and audience selection in how the wider team uses the platform.

Podcast (Riverside)

  • facilitate end-to-end podcast production, including scheduling, sending invites, recording, and execution, with training and support provided to build expertise quickly.

Website content:

  • support day-to-day website content updates using the CMS (Umbraco), including page edits, publishing new content and QA;

  • become an expert on Passle, providing guidance on best practices, assisting with user administration and troubleshooting platform issues, with training and support provided to build expertise quickly;

  • apply SEO fundamentals when publishing content, including titles, descriptions and headings; and

  • ensure published content meets agreed standards for messaging, formatting and accuracy.

Analytics and reporting:

  • develop a working understanding of performance across our channels, using platform analytics and GA4;

  • contribute to regular reporting on social, email and website activity; and

  • use performance insight to inform content and scheduling decisions.

Writing and proofing:

  • provide a reliable editorial eye across the team's output, proofing content before it goes out; and

  • draft and refine copy for digital channels, with a focus on clear, accurate messaging in the firm's tone of voice.

Keeping current:

  • keep up to date with digital and social trends, flagging opportunities relevant to the firm.

This job description encompasses the main duties of the role and is by no means exhaustive. Duties may vary from time to time according to the needs of the department.

The candidate

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • experience in a digital marketing role, ideally within professional services or a similarly complex stakeholder environment;

  • hands-on experience running social media channels for a business, particularly LinkedIn;

  • excellent written English, with proven copywriting and proofing ability and a meticulous eye for detail;

  • a methodical, well-organised approach, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines calmly and accurately;

  • experience with email marketing platforms (Vuture ideal, or a comparable system) and the aptitude to become a platform expert who supports others;

  • experience creating social media artwork and visuals in Canva;

  • a working understanding of digital analytics and how performance data informs content decisions;

  • a working understanding of AI tools and an interest in using them to create efficiencies in day-to-day work;

  • strong communication skills and the confidence to coordinate approvals with stakeholders at all levels;

  • a proactive, can-do attitude with the judgement to know when to act and when to ask; and

  • natural curiosity, willingness to build commercial awareness and a desire to continuously develop digital marketing capability.

Desirable experience:

  • experience updating website content through a CMS (Umbraco ideal, or comparable);

  • supporting paid or promoted LinkedIn campaigns;

  • automating and innovating with AI and other emerging digital/SaaS platforms;

  • familiarity with podcast or webinar production; and

  • prior experience within a law firm.
