Biomethane Trader | Amsterdam



The Opportunity

Our client, an international organisation operating across the agriculture, energy, and sustainability sectors, is seeking a Biomethane Trader to join its growing renewable energy business in Amsterdam.

This is a unique opportunity to join a company that already possesses significant biomethane production volumes, providing the successful candidate with immediate access to physical supply and an established market position from day one.

Initially, the role will focus on the commercialisation, optimisation, and management of the company's existing biomethane portfolio. Over time, the successful candidate will play a key role in developing third-party trading activity, building strategic customer relationships, and expanding the business's commercial footprint across Europe, particularly within the DACH region.

The position offers substantial autonomy, direct exposure to senior management, and the opportunity to help shape the future growth of a rapidly expanding biomethane platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Commercialise and optimise existing biomethane production volumes across European markets.

• Develop and execute trading and origination strategies within the biomethane sector.

• Build and maintain relationships with utilities, energy traders, industrial consumers, suppliers, and producers.

• Source and transact third-party biomethane volumes.

• Develop a customer portfolio across key European markets, with a particular focus on the DACH region.

• Monitor market fundamentals, pricing dynamics, regulatory developments, and certification schemes.

• Negotiate and structure spot, short-term, and long-term biomethane agreements.

• Identify new commercial opportunities across renewable gas and environmental products.

• Support the continued expansion of the company's renewable energy trading activities.

Candidate Profile

✔ Direct experience within the biomethane market is strongly preferred.

✔ 1-3 years' experience within biomethane trading, origination, brokerage, renewable gas, environmental commodities, or related energy markets.

✔ Strong understanding of:

• Biomethane Markets

• Renewable Gas

• Guarantees of Origin (GoOs)

• ISCC & REDcert

• European Gas Markets

• Environmental Products

• Renewable Energy Certificates

✔ Strong commercial and relationship-building skills.

✔ Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently.

✔ Proven ability to develop new business opportunities and commercial relationships.

✔ Comfortable operating within a fast-growing and evolving market environment.

Language Requirements

The business is building a multilingual commercial team and is particularly interested in candidates with some of the following language capabilities:

• Dutch

• German

• Eastern European languages

• English

• Czech

Location

• Amsterdam preferred.

• Rome may also be considered for exceptional candidates.

• There is flexibility around location during the initial onboarding period.
